Boundary layer calculations for the MHD insulator wall
Abstract
A computer model has been used to obtain predictions concerning the current distribution, the friction, and the heat transfer on an insulating wall in the case of an inclusion of MHD effects. The model is based on a boundary-layer program developed by Crawford and Kays (1975). Modifications for the sidewall boundary layer take into account the electric fields and the variation in current density across the boundary layer. The computed results are discussed, giving attention to an MHD central station pilot plant, a supersonic MHD channel, and the Stanford MHD facility.
