The mechanics of fluid suspensions
Abstract
The rheology of some materials is discussed in terms of its microstructure. Dilute suspensions of small particles in a Newtonian fluid are considered. The behavior of the particles in suspension at the microscopic level was studied. The following microphysical properties were examined: external dipolar fields, rotary Brownian motion, elastic particles, droplets with interfacial tension, hydrodynamic, and electrostatic interactions. The macroscopic observable rheology was related to the microscopic characterization.
