Practical considerations in applying digital filters to radar signal processing
Abstract
The design and implementation of a digital nonrecursive Doppler filter bank for a typical range gated pulse Doppler radar is considered in this paper. The radar system requirements that relate to the specifications for the Doppler filter bank are discussed. A major constraint on digital filter design is the degree of quantization of the filter coefficients. It is shown that the undesirable effects of quantization are minimized by incorporating a simple prefilter in front of the Doppler filter bank. Typical hardware implementations are discussed in the context of contemporary digital devices.
