Low Reynolds number flow in plate wakes
Abstract
The flow between pairs of colinear, flat plates aligned with the flow direction in a water channel was studied using hot-film anemometry and visualization techniques. The ratio of plate length to plate thickness ranged between 100 and 4. The investigation focussed on the region of transition from steady to oscillatory laminar flow between plates. The downstream plate was found to influence both the critical velocity at which oscillations first appear and the frequency of these oscillations.
