Detection of frequency-modulated signals by means of a Josephson junction
Abstract
Superconducting contacts, characterized by an unsteady Josephson effect, can be used as frequency detectors of weak frequency-modulated signals at millimeter and submillimeter wavelengths. In the present paper, the potential of Josephson junctions of the type used for measuring the spectral characteristics of microwave generators are analyzed. The current-voltage characteristics of Josephson junctions are given for quasi-monochromatic microwave signals and for frequency-modulated microwave signals.
