Modulated molecular beam of tin vapor for the measurement of plasma density
Abstract
A thermal molecular beam of tin vapor, modulated by a disk obturator, was used to measure plasma density and the pressure of neutral gas in plasma in the Orga-3 high temperature plasma trap. The method was based on the measurement of signals from the overcharging of fast plasma ions on the molecular beam and was used to perform stabilization experiments on plasmas (with densities up to 10 to the 10th/cu cm) with flute instability. The liquid tin was heated to 1000-1050 C without changing the pressure of the uncondensed gases more than 10 to the -10 torr.
