General numerical solution of the magnetostatic equations
Abstract
The described method for the calculation of the magnetic field strength H and the magnetic induction B in the case of a given distribution of magnetizable materials and currents is based on a utilization of the scalar potential. Sommerfeld (1900) has shown an approach which makes it possible to use the scalar potential for the calculation of nonirrotational fields. The application of Sommerfeld's method in its original form had disadvantages related to the procedure used in obtaining solenoid fields. The new numerical procedure does not require solutions for solenoid fields and avoids, therefore, the disadvantages of Sommerfeld's method.
