Competition effects of orthogonally polarized modes in a ring laser
Abstract
Competition of orthogonally polarized modes in a ring laser was investigated. It was found that when two modes are symmetrical with respect to a gain line, a region of unidirectional generation arises. Since the frequency state can be changed within the Doppler contour using a phase plate, a bimodal laser with orthogonally polarized modes can be used as a switching frequency standard and in laser spectroscopy.
