Current-sheet parameters and a thermal trigger for solar flares
Abstract
Parameters characterizing the steady current sheet in the solar atmosphere are expressed in terms of initial plasma density, electric field and gradient of the outer magnetic field near its zero line. Conditions are found, which cause the steady state to break up. This can be identified with the onset of the explosive phase of a flare.
