The effect of elliptical cross-section of a plasma torus on the collisionless trapped-particle instability.
Abstract
The paper describes the effect of the elliptical cross section of an axisymmetric plasma torus on the collisionless trapped-particle instability. Through calculation it is found that when the elliptical parameter is at least unity, the perturbation growth rate becomes negative, and the system is stable. In the range of the elliptical parameter chosen, the results obtained from numerical calculations and analytical results obtained from the step-function model are nearly comparable.
