Optimization of the parameters of a stellar sensor, used for attitude reconstitution of a satellite
Abstract
The configuration and types of star sensor for use onboard the Exosat satellite were studied. In arbitrary pointing mode, the satellite should observe 98% of known X-ray sources during its life, and the absolute position of weak sources should be determined with a precision of 10 arcsec. A star sensor is used for eliminating the attitude control gyro's drift. Possible star sensor configurations (parallel or angled) and two types of sensors were investigated in relation to pointing precision, number of stars in the field of view, and number of stars around the sources.
