Modulation studies for direct satellite communication of voice signals
Abstract
The question of modulation in the direct communication of voice signals from a satellite to individual homes for warning of natural disasters was investigated. A reasonable voice quality required at the final destination was determined, and the required radio frequency signal power at the receiver input was estimated. Based on this result and the available UHF signal power measurement result, the system margin in the power budget was evaluated for certain system parameter values. Potential use of an existing home radio and television receiver as a part of the system was considered. The possibility of such a use appears to be remote.
