A study of discontinuities in rectangular waveguide by modal analysis. The design of a single step dielectric matching transformer
Abstract
The problem of some simple discontinuities in a waveguide was examined and the more complex problem of the design of a one step transformer of dielectric material was studied. The influence of the junctions of this design is dealt with. The matching problem of the junction was solved numerically by modal analysis. An experimental confirmation was found for the numerical results. The application of a single step transformer for matching a non-reciprocal ferrite phase shifter resulted in a bandwidth of 4 to 6 percent. In most cases this bandwidth is insufficient and a two step transformer must be applied. Some attention is paid to the design of a multi-step dielectric matching transformer.
