Similarity theory and the laboratory simulation of thermal blooming
Abstract
The feasibility of carrying out a laboratory simulation of the propagation of high-power laser radiation through the atmosphere is investigated. A theoretical analysis is presented for three cases distinguished by their different energy-transfer mechanisms, and in each case an example is given to indicate the kind of laboratory apparatus which would be required for simulation.
