An evaluation programme for the space application of an Avalanche diode
Abstract
An evaluation program of a double drift region silicon Impatt diode to be used in satellite communication is presented. The specifications of the diode are operating frequency range 11 to 13 GHz, operating voltage 113 to 117 V, operating current 25 to 40 mA, output 0.3 to 0.6 W, efficiency 10.5 to 12.7 %. The reliability target was a failure rate less than 300 FIT during a 7-year life in space. Design, development, and production of the Avalanche diode are described and performance and reliability test methods are discussed. The different tests and failure analyses were evaluated and recommendations for future space qualification and application were made.
