Amplitude and frequency characteristics of ring gas lasers
Abstract
Results of an experimental investigation of the amplitude and frequency characteristics of ring gas lasers are presented. The dependence of the additional shift in the beat frequency averaged with respect to the total phase of the coupling coefficients, as well as of the phase shift between the beat frequency and wave intensity variations due to the change in the total phase, on the cavity tuning is investigated for the first time. A complex investigation of the dependence of the beat frequency and the opposing wave intensity of ring gas lasers on the ring cavity tuning and the total phase of the coupling coefficients is carried out, which permits comparing different versions of ring gas laser theory. It is shown that far from the capture zone the dependence is due mainly to the difference between the cavity losses for the opposing waves. An increase in the beat frequency deviation is noted for a rise in the pumping intensity. The results of the experimental investigation are compared to theories of ring gas lasers.
