Contribution to the study of the instability of bubbles in a liquid
Abstract
The behavior of air and vapor bubbles in aerated water at rest under room temperature conditions was studied. Thermodynamic equilibrium conditions were analyzed, and in this way the value of the critical radius R sub C was determined. This parameter was found to signify a condition of unstable equilibrium for the bubble, inasmuch as any disturbance may produce either its continued growth or its complete collapse. These considerations were then related to the study of the release of the cavitation phenomenon.
