Heat transfer from flames
Abstract
General aspects of convective heat transfer are discussed along with the convective heat transfer from flames, taking into account the boundary layer, the evaluation of convective heat-transfer coefficients, the analogy between heat and mass transfer, the thermal and transport properties of gas mixtures, chemical recombination reactions, and the modification of empirical heat transfer correlations. Other questions considered are related to radiative heat transfer, radiative heat transfer from flames, and flame temperatures. Attention is given to the variation of thermal radiation with wavelength, the intensity of radiation, emissivity, Kirchhoff's radiation law, the interchange of radiation between two surfaces, and heat transfer in the combustion chamber of a boiler.
