Experimental study of transient processes in an automatic frequency control system operating in noise
Abstract
The experimental set-up consisted of a typical AFC system, a sine-wave generator, a noise generator, a digital frequency meter, and an oscillograph. The harmonic signal and the normal stable broadband noise were summed, with independent regulation of signal level, noise, and SNR. The central frequency of the frequency detector was 440 KHz, while the lock-in band was 49 KHz. The aim of the study was to determine the probability of lock-in, which was done by making 200 measurements (later averaged) of the lock-in band as a function of initial detuning and SNR.
