Estimating parameters of a voltage-tuned magnetron
Abstract
Results of a computer analysis of coupling between beam electrons and microwave fields in voltage-tuned magnetrons (VTM) are reported. Three-dimensional dynamical trajectories of electrons in VTM models with nonuniform electrical and magnetic fields are calculated in the procedure, with space charge effects taken into account. Device behavior, efficiency, and noise level are analyzed in the case of varying device geometry, electrical conditions, and magnetic field uniformity. Reasons for increased noise fluctuations in the output spectrum are pinpointed. The VTM noise level is lowered as the spread in electron beam kinematic parameters at entry to the interaction space is narrowed down.
