A cylindrical hydrodynamic suspension on a fixed base
Abstract
The paper examines a cylindrical fluid-filled suspension which contains a long float and a thin radial clearance. The suspension, which is assumed to rest on a fixed base, is undergoing translational motions with a certain acceleration in the vertical direction. Attention is given to stability of the float for the cases of both high-viscosity and low-viscosity fluids, and to the related stability of the entire suspension. The study is relevant to the development of integrating accelerometers.
