Device for the measurement of strong pulsed electric fields
Abstract
An electro-optical device for measuring pulsed electric fields with a strength of up to 1 MV/m is described. It consists of a laser light source (at a wavelength of 6320 A), a KDP electro-optical crystal, a photodetector, and a field analyzer. The strength of the electric field is determined from changes in the characteristics of linearly polarized laser radiation induced by the applied electric field. The design of the electro-optical device is described and its optical and amplitude-frequency characteristics are considered.
