Precision two-coordinate single-mirror scanning device
Abstract
A two-dimensional high-precision scanner for processing graphical data is described. The mirror is actuated by a moving-coil system, and deflects a focused light beam 12 deg to either side of the axis in angular steps of 0.2 sec. The mechanical and optical design of the system is described in detail. Flexibility in scanning in two dimensions, excellent metrological performance, compact size, and good optical qualities are emphasized. The device is recommended for use in processing of bubble chamber and nuclear photoemulsion plates, automatic photometric scanning of optical images, and digital computer input and readout of graphical information.
