A study of the emp interaction with aircraft using intersecting bodies of revolution as a model
Abstract
An improvement on the wire modeling of an aircraft was accomplished by using intersecting bodies of revolution to represent the aircraft in determining the response to the nuclear electromagnetic pulse (EMP). Extensive aircraft skin current data comparisons for the B-1 aircraft are presented utilizing data from conventional wire models, scale model measurements, and wire mesh models. The skin currents and charges induced on an EC-135 aircraft both inflight and during ground alert were studied and compared with the crossed wire and simple cylinder models.
