Experimental investigation of coaxial turbulent jets
Abstract
The application of optical diagnostic techniques for the experimental analysis of turbulent flowfields was investigated. Raman Scattering and Laser Doppler Velocimetry were utilized to determine temperature, specie concentration, and velocity information for an isothermal coaxial jet and an unpremixed methane-air flame. Comparison of these results with those of more conventional methods such as hot-wire anemometry, thermocouples, and gas chromatography was very good, indicating that the optical techniques are superior since they do not require the insertion of a probe which will perturb the flowfield.
