Solare neutrinos.
Abstract
Experimental results from an underground experiment in progress over a decade in an abandoned gold mine in the central USA (South Dakota) on detection of solar neutrinos are reviewed, and the importance of their discrepancy with results predicted on the basis of accepted solar physics and neutrino theory is emphasized. The discrepancy of a factor of ten either refutes the standard solar model or calls for re-examination of views on neutrino processes. It is speculated that the effective cross sections of some nuclear reactions may be so modified by resonance effects that neutrino flux levels are seriously affected, or else that some finite interaction between matter and neutrinos does occur and that neutrinos traversing the sun-earth path may perhaps become transformed into some other or unknown particle and thereby escape detection in the experiment.
