Abstract
The scientific application of the limb scanning concept in connection with the studies conducted with the aid of the satellite Nimbus 6 is considered. This method permits the viewing of the atmosphere, toward the horizon, to reveal the vertical distribution of atmospheric elements. A four-channel Limb Radiance Inversion Radiometer is used for this technique. The data obtained with the aid of the instrument make it possible to construct a vertical temperature profile with temperature points plotted approximately every 1.4 kilometers apart. Information concerning ozone and water vapor concentrations is also obtained.
