Hydromechanics of weightlessness
Abstract
The work is devoted to the mathematical theory of the behavior of a liquid under conditions of total or partial weightlessness, such as occurs in space flight. Consideration is given to the statics of the problem with emphasis on equilibrium forms of the liquid, the stability of the equilibrium states and the branching of these states during loss of stability. Small oscillations (linear oscillations of ideal and viscous fluids) of liquids under weightlessness are then examined along with effects of convection (e.g., in a self-gravitating liquid and thermocapillary convection).
