Physical properties and the possibility of application of EuO and CdCr2Se4 type magnetic semiconductors
Abstract
The paper examines the magnetic, electrical, optical, and magneto-optical properties of magnetic semiconductors of the type EuO and CdCr2Se4 (europium and chromium chalcogenides) which display a considerable band-mobility of free electrons and a strong interaction of these electrons with local magnetic moments. New physical effects observed in these semiconductors such as the photoferromagnetic effect and the interaction of spin waves with electron density waves are discussed. Applications of these materials are discussed including microwave integrated circuits, optical memory devices, Schottky diodes and magneto-optical light modulators.
