Advanced electron tubes for next generation satellite telecommunications. I
Abstract
It is pointed out that the next generation of commercial communication satellites will probably make extensive use of the 11/12 and 14-GHz frequency bands. The interest in the utilization of these frequency bands is partly related to the availability of the required microwave tubes and components. A description is given of high-efficiency X-band satellite traveling-wave tubes. Advances in tube efficiency are reported and the development of higher-efficiency multistage-collector tubes is discussed. Attention is also given to approaches which will solve problems concerning the temperature stabilization in spacecraft.
