Hard X-ray observations in the region of Centaurus.
Abstract
The paper reports on Ariel V observations of 3U 1118-60 (Cen X-3), 3U 1254-69, and 3U 1223-62 (GX 301-2). These and previous results suggest that neutron stars with magnetospheres may emit by a mechanism in which Thomson scattering in the sources is important. Their spectra are rather different from those associated, for example, with black-hole candidates.
