Physical properties of red giants in 47 Tucanae
Abstract
All published DDO photometry of stars in the metal-rich globular cluster 47 Tucanae has been analysed together. A reddening of E(B-V) = 0'05 and a metal abundance of [Fe/H] = -0'5 were obtained and estimates of the effective temperatures, surface gravities and masses of the ten cluster members derived. Some evidence was found for differences in surface abundance and, possibly, in mass between the stars. The 47 Tucanae data combined with the results for five other globular clusters previously studied by the same technique are discussed in relation to the cyanogen band strengths and the helium abundances of globular cluster stars.
