Observations of hydrogen 92 recombination line profiles suggest that the inner regions of Orion A and W A have low electron densities. If a constant electron density, Ne, is assumed, then the observed profiles give 5 x io3 cm-3 > Ne >5 x i02 cm-3 for the inner region of Orion A, and 4 x io4 cm-3 > Ne > 4 x io cm-3 for the inner region of W3 A. For the volume we observed in Orion A, forbidden line measurements give an average electron density of Ne> i04 cm-3. Although the application of non-LTE theory to other radio frequency line data suggests that Ne = x io4 cm-3 and Ne = 7.7 x io4 cm-3, respectively, for Orion A and W A, variable density models based upon all previous radio data give e = 5>c i03 cm-3 for our observed volume in Orion A. Our observations suggest that variable density models with even lower electron densities may be appropriate.
