Measurements in strength tests with aircraft structures
Abstract
Measuring methods are proposed for use in strength tests with supersonic-aircraft structures. The methods and the proper ways of handling them are deduced from a generalization and systematization of information on measuring methods. Modern instruments which provide information of the stress-strain state of aircraft components are reviewed, along with their operating environment. Proper ways of mounting the instruments on aircraft elements tested at normal and high temperatures (and in fatigue tests) are described, along with new methods of measuring the parameters of test structures. Measurement errors affecting the actual values of the measured quantities are analyzed, and means of eliminating or reducing them are proposed, along with data processing recommendations for assessing the magnitude of measurement errors.
