Preliminary experiments with diffusers for a supersonic flow CO-laser
Abstract
Diffusers are used to minimize the pump systems required for the operation of supersonic CW CO lasers. After a review of the state of the art of diffuser technology, two different diffusers for the CO lasers are considered: (1) a short channel of 16.6 cm length and with constant cross section equal to that of the nozzle exit and attached to it, and (2) a frictional diffuser. The efficiency of the two diffusers was found to be relatively small.
