Closecoupling calculations for electron collisions with O/+/ and for bound states of neutral oxygen
Abstract
Improved collision strengths are calculated for the transitions between the terms 45 zero, 2D zero, and 2P zero of the ground configuration 2s2 2p3 of O(+) and for the finestructure transition 2D zero 5/22D zero 3/2. We use the closecoupling approximation for all partial waves of interest and we also use a representation for O(+) constructed from configurationinteraction wavefunctions. The closecoupling equations are also solved at negative energies for the bound states of the system (e + O(+)). The calculated eigenenergies of neutral oxygen are in close agreement with experiment and represent significant improvement over the multiconfiguration HartreeFock calculations of Bagus, Hibbert and Moser.
