Possibility of controlling the temperature dependence of thermoelectric-converter parameters
Abstract
The effectiveness of thermal converters employing thermocouples can be upgraded by using semiconductor materials. A disadvantage, however, is the pronounced temperature dependence of semiconductor thermoelectric parameters. It is shown how thermocouple materials with a moderate temperature dependence of the thermoelectric parameters can be obtained by doping them to provide two competitive mechanisms of carrier relaxation: scattering by acoustic phonons and scattering by an ionized impurity. The experiments were carried out with cadmium antimonide single crystals doped with silver and zinc.
