Heat transfer in an infinite tube carrying laminar fluid flow with a radial and a longitudinal thermal conduction
Abstract
The orthogonal collocation method is applied to the extended Graetz (1885) problem, where the laminar flow of a Newtonian fluid at a linear flow rate assumes, at z tending to infinity, the wall temperature of an infinite tube. It is shown that the solution of the form of a series of Legendre polynomials obtained by this method is superior both in the mathematical and physical sense to solutions obtained with the aid of Fourier series.
