Application of RAM to communication systems
Abstract
The terminals of several satellite communication systems were deployed and data were obtained to measure the reliability, maintainability, and logistics down time in order to evaluate their operational availability, which is defined as a function of demonstrated mean time between failure (MTBF), mean time to repair (MTTR), average logistic time (ALT), and station average administration time (AAT). These data provide inputs to an operational corrective action system designed to find problem areas, rank them, study alternate fixes, and implement the cost effective ones.
