Irradiated electronics reliability study
Abstract
In 1969, 790 modules of small scale integrated circuitry in the form of 10 guidance and control systems were withdrawn from the field and irradiated by bremsstrahlung in the Air Force Weapons Laboratory. The irradiated modules were then returned to field service, and in 1975, failure and repair records were analyzed statistically to determine whether the radiation had functionally affected the avionics. The fraction which failed among the irradiated modules was not found to be greater to a statistically significant degree than the fraction which failed among the nonirradiated modules which served as controls
