Symmetrical four-port edge-guided wave circulators
Abstract
An X-band four-port edge-guided wave circulator (EGC) is designed, fabricated, and tested, and is shown to retain the broadband behavior of the three-port EGC. Precise mechanical control of the magnetic bias profile and a mathematical characterization of stripline geometry are provided. Efficient circulator action is achieved at negative effective magnetic permeability. An experimental study of volume-wave modes and their resonances is undertaken, and the performance of the four-port EGC is compared to prediction. The spatial distribution of RF fields in a four-port EGC is examined.
