Limiting performance of generalized sign test detector
Abstract
A method is developed for arriving at the limiting performance for a finite number of independent returns from the target as the number of independent noise samples in the reference set tends to infinity, and curves illustrating the asymptotic behavior of the variables are plotted. Expressions for probability of detection and probability of false alarm are presented for a generalized sign test detector as detection scheme. Analysis is carried out for nonfluctuating targets and returns from targets with Rayleigh fluctuating sine-wave amplitude. An appendix treats performance bounds for nonfluctuating and fluctuating (sine wave) target statistics.
