Abstract
J. P. Pye, M. Elvis and G. R. Eadie, Physics Department, Leicester University, report that observations of the galactic center region with the Ariel 5 Sky Survey instrument during Aug. 27-Sept. 1 show a previously unobserved, relatively faint, x-ray source. The 90-percent-confidence error box for the source location is centered on l = 357o.0, b = +7o.4; has corners at 354o.6, +7o.8; 354o.6, +7o.0; 359o.4, +7o.0; 359o.4, +7o.8; and area 0.4 square degrees. Assuming the x-ray source to be at the center of the error box, the intensity is about 10**-9 erg cm**-2 s**-1 (at 2-10 keV). The box includes the high core density globular cluster NGC 6293.
