X-Ray Bursts
Abstract
M. J. Coe, A. R. Engel and J. J. Quenby, Imperial College, London, report that during Mar. 8-11 the Ariel 5 scintillation counter detected at least three bursts of hard x-rays in the range 50-200 keV, each lasting approximately 3s. The detector was pointing near MXB1730-335 with an 8o radius field of view. The energy per burst was at least 3 x 10**-7 erg cm**-2. These bursts correlate with those reported by Mason et al. (IAUC 2932) but occur after a time lag of between 12s and 50s. Corrigendum. On IAUC 2932, line 9, for 20 times read 20 %.
