Digital fluidic component and system design
Abstract
Pure fluidic digital devices (wall reattachment, turbulence, and momentum interaction) are reviewed along with moving part digital devices. The characteristics - power consumption, fan-in and fan-out, pressure and flow recovery, and switching characteristics - of digital fluidic components are examined. Attention is given to digital modules, sensors, and combinational and sequential circuit design. It is maintained that little commercial advantage can be expected from new basic designs of miniature pure fluid digital elements, but that more complex digital modules may be expected to appear as design emphasis shifts towards circuit organization.
