Analog switching transistors for ac signals
Abstract
The characteristics of bipolar and unipolar (FET, MOSFET) switching transistors most essential for switching performance are examined, and their effect on switching performance is judged. The effect of bipolar transistor base control current on residual voltage, on dynamic impedance, and on collector-emitter voltage drop is plotted and discussed. Effects of switching capacitances and circuit capacitances on switching transistor performance are studied. Transistor switching circuits with single transistors, in complementary-pair arrangements, and in normal or inverted positions are discussed, along with series-parallel phase-compensated analog switching arrangements. Selection criteria for applications of common transistors are considered.
