Block codes for optical-fibre communication
Abstract
A study based on alternative translation is performed to select the binary block codes which are suitable for high bit rate (140, 560 Mb/s) optical fiber PCM communication. The key factors that influence selection are the reduction of high and low frequency components, the timing component, the in-service error monitoring and the nonlinearity of the available optical sources. In making a selection, the following parameters are considered: the bit-rate increase, the longest run of similar digits, the bounds of accumulated disparity, and the proportion of unused n-bit words.
