Satellite flight dynamics data-handling systems
Abstract
The present discussion is centered on the newly developed Multi-Satellite Support System (MSSS) designed, on the basis of ESOC's experience in the treatment of orbit and attitude data, to meet control center and payload data processing requirements for the next generation of ESA satellites. The system can support simultaneously satellites of different type and can be extended to serve new satellites at low cost. It is based on modern theories of orbit and attitude determination, orbit and attitude maneuver optimization, and on advanced concepts of task and data handling. The key functions of the main four subsystems of the orbit attitude system in the MSSS are discussed. These are the subsystems for orbit determination, attitude determination, orbit attitude maneuver support, and for monitoring the overall system.
