Whispering gallery waves in the vicinity of a boundary flex point
Abstract
Electromagnetic, elastic, or acoustic whispering gallery waves can propagate along the concave boundary of a body. This paper presents a numerical investigation of the behavior of a whispering gallery wave in the vicinity of a flex point of a boundary, where there is zero curvature. A finite-difference examination indicates that the whispering gallery wave is destroyed in the vicinity of a point where the effective curvature of the boundary is zero.
