Statistical algorithm for the separation of interfering geophysical fields
Abstract
The described algorithm is based on statistical considerations proposed by Gol'tsman (1971) for the interpretation of geophysical observations. The generalized form of an algorithm reported by Troian (1971) for the separation of interfering seismic waves is considered. A description is given of an iterative procedure which makes it possible to determine in succession a sequence of parameter values of increasing accuracy. A matrix approach is proposed for the evaluation of the quality of the obtained solution. It is pointed out that the reported algorithm can be used for the separation of geophysical signals of various types. A number of programs based on the algorithm have been developed for the interpretation of data in the case of complex interference conditions involving wave and potential fields.
